Penicuik travelled to Pumpherston where they had never won against the home team, requiring three points to continue their push for a top four finish in the league.

Pumpherston created the first scoring opportunity in the 8th minute when a glancing header was blocked for a corner kick. Two minutes later Auld came close for Penicuik when his long range shot went just wide of the target. Then Armit of Pumpherston saw his shot loop over the crossbar. Penicuik should have taken the lead in the 21st minute when Harvey rounded the keeper, and set up Gibb, but somehow he managed to miss from three yards and the ball was cleared by Malley. Minutes later keeper Gary Malley did well to cut out a searching cross by Gibb. Then he tipped a McKean free kick over the bar. From the corner, taken by McKean, Harvey headed the ball back across goal where AULD pounced to head home. In the 40th minute, a free kick to Pumpherston was crossed into the box where S Malley was unlucky to see his header go just past the post. However, Pumpherston equalised three minutes later when the Penicuik defence was posted missing and MARTINDALE had all the time in the world to pick his spot and slot the ball past the helpless McLeod.

HALFTIME | Pumpherston 1-1 Penicuik Athletic

In the first minute of the second half, keeper Malley's poor clearance was picked up by Gibb, but he shot straight at Malley who gathered gratefully. At the other end, Armit jinked past two Penicuik defenders, mishit his shot and as McLeod got down to save, the ball bobbled over his body, but Foster was on the line to clear. Then King of Pumpherston was booked for a foul on McKean. In the 55th minute, Auld rose above the Pumpherston defence to head wide from a Hope corner. Three minutes later, following another corner to Penicuik, keeper Malley punched clearance was picked up by Hope, however his volley sailed over the bar. In the 61 st minute, Gibb of Penicuik was booked for dissent. Then Penicuik substitute, Lindsay, was denied by a last gasp tackle by Hogarth. One minute later Penicuik restored their lead. Jones crossed to the back post where Hope headed the ball back to HARVEY who had the simplest of tasks to tap home from five yards. In the 65th minute Armit's free kick from just outside the penalty box slid narrowly past the post. Immediately afterwards, Harvey just failed to get a toe on to a Jones cross. Then Auld was booked for a foul from behind. In the 72nd minute, McLeod did well under severe pressure to cut out an Armit free kick. Reid of Pumpherston was booked for a foul on Gibb. In the 80th minute, Malley had to be alert to cut out a great cross by Hope after fine work by Jones. Blair should have done better with a free header from a Hope corner kick, but couldn't hit the target. In the 84th minute, Penicuik broke quickly out of defence and Harvey played a delightful ball over the top of the Pumpherston defence. LINDSAY took the ball in his stride and slotted the ball home past the advancing keeper. That should have been over, but three minutes later Pumpherston got back into the game When MARTINDALE scored with a well placed left foot shot. In Pumpherston's next attack, Armit was through with only McLeod to beat, but the keeper pulled off the save of the match to secure the points for Penicuik.
