Pumpherston were the visitors to Penicuik Park for this 3rd round Fife & Lothians tie and the first chance of the game fell their way when Shave intercepted a Young pass, but his effort on goal was comfortably saved by Hill. In the 17th minute, Cunnison lost possession in his own half, but fortunately for Penicuik, Shave’s shot went wide of the target. Then a Gay free kick from the edge of the box went a yard over the bar. However, in the 21st minute Penicuik opened the scoring. Jancyzk played a great diagonal pass to McDermott. He crossed the ball to the back post where Killin headed the ball down to GAY who hammered the ball into the net. In their next attack, Patterson saw his powerful shot headed over the bar. From the corner, McCallum got his head to the ball but it hit the top of the crossbar and went over for a goal kick. Two minutes later the same player came close with another header that went narrowly past the upright. In the 27th minute Pumpherston were awarded a free kick and Downie’s powerful strike flew inches over the bar. Shortly afterwards a header by Gay looked netbound but keeper Hunter somehow managed to get a hand to the ball to hook it away. Then Patterson was set free one on one with keeper Hunter and as he rounded the keeper he was taken down right on the edge of the box. However, Gay’s free kick sailed over the bar. Penicuik doubled their lead in the 40th minute when McCALLUM headed home a Gay corner kick. Right on half time, a curling shot by Jancyzk beat the keeper, but hit the base of the post and away for a goal kick.

As the ball came down, Patterson rushed in to score, but Purvis again came to the rescue to hook the ball away. Five minutes later, Young lost possession near his own goal line and Downie’s strike went inches past the far post. In the 64th minute, McCallum beat the offside trap, but keeper Hunter did exceptionally well to block the striker’s effort for a corner. From the corner, White hit the crossbar and YOUNG was on hand to tap the rebound home. At the other end a Downie free kick was well saved by Hill. In the 70th minute, Hunter dived low to his left to save a strike by Ross. Then McGuigan almost put through his own net with a clearance that whistled over the bar.
