A late arranged friendly game saw the fans entertained with a six goal draw against Whitehill Welfare at Penicuik Park. Whitehill took the lead in the 9th minute when Connolly burst through the Penicuik defence to set up MANSON who slotted the ball past Bejaoui. In the 15th minute a good move by Penicuik was thwarted at the last second with a timely tackle by Williams. From the corner, White headed past the post. Then Lough had a chance for Penicuik, but he couldn’t direct his header off a Somerville cross on target. Penicuik were dominating play at this point and a Blaikie cross was headed just wide by McCallum. Somerville crossed ball back in and keeper Young parried the ball away. Jancyzk then had a shot that McCallum flicked goalwards, but Young was well placed to save. Penicuik’s pressure finally told in the 45th minute when YOUNG glanced home a Thomson corner kick.

Penicuik started the second half where they left off and within two minutes they took the lead. Blaikie got past three defenders and sent over a deep cross to substitute PATTERSON who took one touch and stroked the ball into the net from twelve yards. In the 65th minute Patterson won the ball and laid it off Somerville who saw his powerful shot blocked by keeper Young, he crossed rebound to the back post where Lough headed it back across goal but the ball was thumped clear by Williams. In their next attack, Young denied McCallum blocking his strike for a corner. Penicuik doubled their lead in the 67th minute when a high ball by Devlin deceived Murray and McCALLUM pounced to slip the ball past Young. However Penicuik’s celebrations were short lived when two minutes later, a neat interchange of passing between Manson and Connolly opened up the Penicuik defence allowing ANDERSON to score from close range. The visitors now had their tails up and Penicuik had Bejaoui tom thank when he was at full stretch to turn away a strike by Manson. Minutes later, Blair came close for Whitehill and play switched to the other end when substitute keeper McGinley was alert to cut out a dangerous Thomson corner kick. Then in the 82nd minute, following a throw in to Whitehill, Blair laid the ball off to CONNOLLY who coolly picked his spot to score the equaliser.
