Penicuik took on Peebles for the fourth time this season, winning all four previous encounters and comfortably ran out winners for the fifth time. Straight from the kick off, a long ball by Stevenson picked out Sampson. He raced in on goal, but his delay in shooting allowed keeper Kerr the time to rush out and gather the ball at the second attempt. In the fifth minute, a Caddow cross into the box was headed over the bar by Crabbe. In their next attack, down the left, a Ponton strike hit the side netting. Penicuik took the lead one minute later when CRABBE was on hand to tap home a Baptie free kick. Penicuik doubled their lead in the 26th minute when a JONES shot went through a ruck of players past Kerr who could only watch as the ball hit the back of the net. Minutes later Penicuik were awarded a penalty when Jones was felled in the box. However, Jones’s spot kick hit the crossbar. With the visitors under severe pressure, McKenzie for Peebles received a red card after taking out Jones. Penicuik should have had a third goal before half time, but Sampson delayed his strike and Kerr got down smothering the ball at the striker’s feet.

HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 2-0 Peebles Rovers

In the 53rd minute, a deft header by YOUNG put the game to bed for Penicuik. Shortly afterwards, a second Peebles player, G Lamb, was sent for an early bath. The next twenty minutes saw the nine men of Peebles under constant pressure. Penicuik created several chances, but poor finishing and stalwart defending and the woodwork kept the score at 3-0. Just before full time, a Baptie cross into the heart of the penalty box was met by Zavaroni who attempted to clear the danger, but the ball dipped narrowly over his own crossbar with keeper Kerr looking on anxiously. Penicuik continued to press, but failed to add to the score, with credit going to the nine men of Peebles who worked their socks off in defence.Final Score: Penicuik 3 Peebles 0
