Penicuik hosted Oakley United in the league and after a hard fought match came away with all three points. Oakley keeper Robertson had to be alert to tip a powerful early Penicuik strike over the crossbar. In Penicuik’s next attack deflected off Breen into his keeper’s arms. In the 16th minute, a long range effort by Jones saw Robertson well placed to save. Four minutes later, Oakley’s first real attack saw Dawson cross the ball into the Penicuik’s box, but Love’s header went wide of the target. Then a quick turn and strike by Crabbe flashed past the upright. At the other end Dawson charged through the middle of the park right up to the Penicuik penalty but was dispossessed at the vital moment by Young. On the half hour, a fingertip save by Robertson denied a great scoring opportunity for Penicuik. However, the opening goal came in the 33rd minute when Somerville laid the ball along the eighteen yard line and NOTMAN blasted the ball past Robertson. One minute later, a McCrory-Irving thunderbolt crashed back off the bar. McIntosh followed but his effort hit the post and was cleared. In the 41st minute, Connolly unfortunately stumble, lost his footing and DARAMOLA pounced to round Cordery and slot home the equaliser.

HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 1-1 Oakley United

Minutes into the second half and strong claims for a penalty for Penicuik were disregarded by the referee. In the 52nd minute a mix up in the Penicuik defence saw Cordery stranded but did exceptional well to get back with a tackle to clear the danger for a corner kick. Then in the 55th minute, a clever ball over the top of the visitor’s defence by McCrory-Irving set McINTOSH free and he lobbed the advancing Robertson to restore Penicuik’s lead. Ten minutes later with Penicuik applying pressure, Jones had a great chance, but blasted the ball high over the bar. In the 78th minute, Caddow was set free by Jones. He drove into the penalty box, but instead of shooting decided to check back and lost possession and a great opportunity to score. With minutes to go, Stevenson got past his marker and crossed the ball to the back post where the defender appeared to fall over his own feet and the ball bounced off him into the grateful keeper’s arms. Penicuik saw out the remainder of the game with some clever possession football.
