Penicuik almost took the lead in the third minute when a long throw in was headed on to the crossbar, but Moonie’s shot flew high over the bar. One minute later, Milne had a similar result with his attempt on goal. In the 8th minute, Cole should have scored with only the keeper to beat, but Jack pulled off an excellent save. At the other end Murray came close with a glancing header from a corner kick. In the 22nd minute, Cole picked up a poor kick out by keeper Jack. He slipped the ball to Barr, but Jack redeemed himself by brilliantly turning Barr’s chip shot round the post. Penicuik continued to dominate play, but scorned the chances they were creating.

Then in the 43rd minute, following a throw in to Penicuik, Killin turned his marker and fired off a low left foot shot, but Jack got down quickly to save. In injury time, Jack pulled off another great save to deny Cole. The ball broke out to the right wing from where Killin’s shot was net bound, but Munro handled on the goal line to prevent a goal. Munro received a red card and CAMERON scored comfortably from the spot.

HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 1-0 Tranent Juniors

Three minutes into the half, Horne was on hand to get his head on to a Montgomery shot and deflect it away for a corner kick. In the 51st minute, a Barr shot was well saved by Jack. Minutes later, an inch perfect Barr pass picked out Montgomery, but his left foot shot went inches past the upright. In the 63rd minute, another Barr pass gave Cole a chance. His pace got him to the ball before keeper Jack, but he saw his strike shave the right hand post. Ten minutes later, Penicuik missed another great chance. Montgomery sent a low pass into the six-yard box where Cole got a touch on the ball, but Jack was alert to save.

In the 74th minute, an excellent diagonal pass picked out McDonald, who was unlucky to see his powerful shot come back off the post, but COLE followed up to slam the ball into the roof of the net. Three minutes later, a Lynch cross was volleyed high over the crossbar by Montgomery. Then in a rare attack by Tranent, Draper was denied when a Penicuik defender threw himself in front of him to block the shot. There were loud claims for a penalty, but referee Reid was not impressed. In the 85th minute, another accurate Barr pass allowed Montgomery to slip the ball to McDonald, He rounded keeper Jack, but just failed to keep the ball in play. In Penicuik’s next attack, Jack had to rush out to deny Montgomery.
