Penicuik should have taken the lead in the 4th minute when Jancyzk was set free by MacDonald with only keeper Robbie to beat but the keeper blocked his strike. In the 19th minute following a corner to Penicuik Gay came close with a first time volley. Minutes later Easton pulled off a great save turning a free kick round the post for a corner. On the half hour Penicuik piled on the pressure and only a Taylor clearance saved the day for the visitors. At the other end keeper Easton pulled off a great save and just as the ball was about to cross the line, Forbes came to the rescue and booted clear. However, the clearance was picked up by Gray on the edge of the box and his quick turn and strike saw Easton dive full length to deny the midfielder. In the 38th minute Roberts broke through the Penicuik defence, beat keeper Easton, but Forbes got back to clear the danger.
HALFTIME | Penicuik Athletic 0-0 Carnoustie Panmure
Carnoustie almost took the lead off a corner kick, but Hume headed the ball off the line. From the clearance, Simpson got past Noble, but was tripped and a penalty kick was given. SIMPSON took the spot kick sending Easton the wrong way. In the 54th minute, substitute S Scott outpaced the Gowfers defence, but keeper Robbie save his powerful shot at the second attempt. One minute later a Carnoustie corner kick caused consternation in the Penicuik box and MacDonald’s shot hit the upright. On the hour mark a Jancyzk free kick was headed by S Scott straight into Robbie’s hands. From Robbie’s long kick out MacDonald had a great chance, but blasted the ball high and wide. Two minutes later, a Gay free kick beat Robbie but crashed back off the crossbar. The ball was thumped up the park but Noble lost possession and Carnoustie broke quickly from defence. Jancyzk cut out McCabe’s pass. However, McCabe followed up to win the ball and set up URQUHART who had a simple tap in to put the game to bed. Penicuik tried hard to get back into the game, but were unable to penetrate a strong Gowfers defence. In the 81st minute Gay sent over a great cross but both McCallum and substitute Lough just failed to connect. Just before full time one last chance fell to Penicuik but Lough’s downward header off a McCallum cross went narrowly wide. Into injury time and Young was dispossessed just outside the penalty box but Easton saved his blushes with a fine block.
