Penicuik Athletic travelled to Lochee for this league match on the back of six straight wins in all competitions, but came away empty handed after a strong performance from the home side. There was only a disputed penalty between the teams at half time but Lochee failed to convert at least three gilt edged chances in the opening twenty minutes. Right from the start the Lochee came at Penicuik with pace and determination and a McNally shot in the third minute was tipped over the bar by keeper Bejaoui. From the corner the big keeper beat away a powerful Cameron drive. Deasley then chipped the ball in for Whitehead to head wide as Lochee kept up the pressure. In the 15th minute, a McComiskie strike was deflected on to and then over the bar by Young. Penicuik defended solidly, and Forbes was always a danger when he drove up the right wing, but his efforts came to no avail. The same player came to the rescue for Penicuik in the 25th minute when he cleared a Hagan strike off the goal line. Penicuik survived the first half hour onslaught and gradually got back into the game, but when it looked like a blank scoresheet before half time, Lochee were awarded a hotly disputed penalty that DEASLEY converted, sending Bejaoui the wrong way.
HALFTIME | Lochee United 1-0 Penicuik Athletic
Penicuik came out for the second half firing on all cylinders and in the opening minute of the half, keeper Fotheringham pulled off a great save to deny Lough after good work by Barr. Two minutes later, Lochee broke quickly from defence and Ritchie set up DEASLEY who stroked the ball home. Then Sproule had a chance for Penicuik, but Fotheringham was well placed to save comfortably. Penicuik worked hard to get back into the game, but Lochee central defenders Lunan and Whitehead dealt with everything that Penicuik threw at them. This was a disappointing performance by Penicuik against a physically strong, pacey and well organised Lochee side.
FULLTIME | Lochee United 2-0 Penicuik Athletic
