Penicuik shocked the home side with a goal in 90 seconds when Forbes flighted a ball over the top of C Courts and Sproule raced down the wing, crossed the ball to the back post and LOUGH headed home. Kelty equalised in the 8th minute, when Kelty broke quickly from defence and Campbell’s cross into the box was steered into the net by PENMAN. Ten minutes later, Penicuik broke down the left and Barr’s cross into the box was almost put into his own net by T Courts, but keeper Marley saved the big defender’s blushes with an instinctive save. In the 20th minute, Bejaoui had to rush from goal to deny Penman. Then Kelty came close on two occasions, when Bejaoui turned away a powerful strike for a corner and a Husband shot went inches wide of the post. Then in the 37th minute, Penicuik restored their lead when a Jancyzk shot was blocked by keeper Marley, but LOUGH pounced on the loose ball and scored from a tight angle. In the 41st minute, a let off for Penicuik saw a long clearance pick out Campbell. He shot for goal, Bejaoui got finger tips to the ball and as it trundled towards the net, it came back off the post and cleared.
HALFTIME | Kelty Hearts 1-2 Penicuik Athletic
Straight from the restart, Kelty went on the attack and came close from a corner kick when Ritchie’s header came back off the crossbar. Then in the 55th minute came the goal of the match when C COURTS blasted the ball from fully thirty yards into the top corner of the net. Not to be out done, Penicuik went straight up the park and LOUGH out jumped O’Neil to head home for his hat trick and restore Penicuik’s lead. Minutes later, Montgomery let fly with a vicious volley that hit the side netting. Kelty got back on level terms in the 65th minute when Moore’s strike was parried by Bejaoui, but RITCHIE followed up to steer the ball home. In the 72nd minute, Kelty had the ball in the net, but Ritchie was adjudged to have fouled Noble. Immediately afterwards, a foul by Jancyzk on Greig infuriated the Kelty players several of whom were guilty of physical abuse of the Penicuik player. In the aftermath several players were cautioned and the game eventually resumed. The referee played five minutes of injury time, but neither side could secure the winner and a share of the points was a fair result.
