Penicuik travelled north of the river to play Kelty Hearts in this East Super League fixture. The game was played on a bitterly cold and windy day not to mention the odd snow shower. Penicuik created the first chance, but Burrell’s header off a Cunnison cross went straight to keeper Allison. In the 17th minute, Bejaoui pulled off an instinctive one handed save to beat away Hall‘s powerful header. Then Grady carved out a great chance for Morrison, but he blasted the ball high over the bar. In the 24th minute, Weir for Penicuik came close with a curling left foot shot. Minutes later the same player again got the better of the home defence, but a last gasp tackle by Courts saved the day for the home side. Just before half time a strike by Dickson beat keeper Allison, but the ball cannoned off the crossbar.
HALFTIME | Kelty Hearts 0-0 Penicuik Athletic
Kelty were quick off the mark and in the 58th minute, Bejaoui was at full stretch to tip a powerful shot on to the crossbar. Immediately afterwards, Grady broke down the right and set up Cargill, but the League’s top scorer saw his effort blocked by White. In the 71st minute, Young showed delightful skills to start a move that set up McCulloch, but Allison was well placed to save his strike. Then a great run by McCabe saw his shot whistle narrowly past the upright. Kelty applied strong pressure in the closing fifteen minutes, but could make no impression on a resolute Penicuik defence.
FULLTIME | Kelty Hearts 0-0 Penicuik Athletic
