Penicuik took control from the opening whistle and only some fine goal keeping by Johnstone kept Penicuiuk at bay. In the 17th minute Penicuik were denied a goal when a powerful strike apperared to have crossed the line but the referee was unmoved this was then followed up with a great double save by keeper Johnstone. Immediately afterwards keeper Johnstone was again the hero, saving Montgomery‘s powerful header. Two minutes later, Reilly broke free from the Penicuik defence and with only Jack to beat, dragged his shot wide of the goal. At the other end, Lough saw his effort go inches past the upright. Then against the run of play full back AULD struck from 30 yards and his thunderous shot hit the back of the net to put the home side ahead.
HALFTIME | Girvan 1-0 Penicuik Athletic
Four minutes into the second half and Penicuik were level when Lough’s cross was headed back across goal by Montgomery and CONNOLLY was on hand to slot the ball home. In the 54th minute a driving run by Jardine left defenders in his wake, but his strike was deflected away for a corner. Three minutes later, a Jancyzk corner kick was headed back into the box and HUME pounced to slam the ball home. Lough then came close with a header that went narrowly wide of the target. However LOUGH was not to be denied when he blasted an unsaveable strike past Johnstone to give Penicuik a well deserved 1-3 lead. Into injury time and a DINWOODIE volley pulled a goal back for the home side but despite their best efforts, Girvan could not get an equaliser to earn a replay.
