Penicuik travelled to Coldstream for the third last league game of the season with nothing less than a win required to keep their title ambitions on track. Penicuik got off to a flier when Callum CONNOLLY bulleted home a header in the second minute. In the 7th minute, a quick break from defence by Coldstream saw Watt rush from goal to smother the ball at the feet of Lee. Minutes later, a quick Baptie throw in set Sampson free with only the keeper to beat, but he blasted the ball high over the bar. Then in the 12th minute, a Stevenson cross from the right saw PONTON dispossess the defender, round keeper Turnbull and slot home to double Penicuik’s lead. In the 20th minute, a long range strike by McCrory-Irving was turned round the post by Turnbull for a corner. However, seven minutes later the Streamers pulled one back when CORFIELD slotted past Watt as he rushed from goal. At the other end a net bound Sampson strike was deflected away for a corner. Penicuik restored their two goal lead in the 39th minute when SAMPSON drilled home a Baptie free kick.

HALFTIME | Coldstream 1-3 Penicuik Athletic

Into the second half and McCrory-Irving had a half chance, but his effort went a yard wide of the target. In the 61st minute, Coldstream came close with a free kick that struck the upright and away for a goal kick. Immediately afterwards, Streamers’ keeper Turnbull pulled off two top drawer saves in the space of a minute to keep the score at 1-3. With seven minutes remaining, goal scorer Connolly saw his long range strike go narrowly wide of the left hand post. Two minutes into injury time, following a corner to Coldstream, a powerful strike from outside the box was hooked off the line by Young and the danger cleared. A satisfying night’s work by Penicuik to keep their title ambitions on track.
