Penicuik travelled to Laing Park, Carnoustie looking to maintain their unbeaten record and they notched up their sixth league victory of the season. However it was the home side who created the first chance when they got round the back of the Penicuik defence, but keeper Allison was alert to the danger with a comfortable save. Five minutes later, it was the home side’s turn to defend when a Kateleza cross was headed clear for a corner. In the 18th minute a fine move saw another Kateleza cross headed clear for a corner. Five minutes later, a defence splitting pass by Hume set Hamilton free, but keeper Robbie rushed out to snatch the ball off the striker’s toe. In the 25th minute Carnoustie won the ball just inside the Penicuik half, but the strike by Martin was high and wide of the target. Three minutes later, Kateleza had only Robbie to beat, but the keeper got the better of the exchange. Then Kateleza set up Hamilton but his powerful first time strike hit the side netting. In their next attack that man Kateleza this time set Ponton free, but keeper Robbie pulled off a great save to deny Penicuik the opening goal. Immediately afterwards, Barr and McCrory-Irving combined well only to see Barr’s shot well saved by Robbie. In a rare opportunity for the home side, a free kick just outside the penalty box was blasted high over the bar. Penicuik were now relentless in pressurising the home side’s defence and a McCrory-Irving strike flashed narrowly wide of the target. One minute before half time, another McCrory-Irving strike was tipped over the bar by Robbie. Despite all the pressure and chances created the score sheet remained blank at the half time whistle.

Five minutes into the half and a tempting ball across the penalty box by Ponton was missed by everyone and the danger cleared. In the 58th minute, Kateleza skipped past McGeehan, but his shot hit the side netting. Two minutes later, an inch perfect through ball by McCrory-Irving picked out Kateleza, but he was adjudged to be marginally offside. At the other end, an attack down the right wing saw the ball cut back but the shot was deflected away for a corner kick. In the 72nd minute, a driving run by Barr set up Hamilton, but his shot flew over the bar. One minute later, an excellent run and cut back by MacDonald saw BARR slam the ball home despite Robbie’s best efforts to tip the ball away. In their next attack, Hamilton had a chance but his effort flew high over the bar. However, minutes later, a great pass set up HAMILTON and this time he made no mistake, doubling Penicuik’s lead. The home side were now struggling to cope with the Penicuik onslaught and in the 87th minute the pressure told when Penicuik earned a penalty kick for a hand ball in the box. KATELEZA deftly converted the spot kick.
